Giving Your Child a Bright Start to School
Starting school is one of the most important milestones in a child's life. At Birkdale South State School, our Bright Sparks Pre Prep Program has been designed to help children and families feel confident, connected and excited about the transition to Prep.
Bright Sparks provides a range of opportunities throughout the year for future Prep students to become familiar with our school environment, meet staff, build friendships and begin developing a sense of belonging before their first day of school. Our goal is simple: to ensure every child arrives in Prep feeling safe, confident and ready to learn.
Building Belonging Before Prep
The transition to school is about much more than academic readiness. Research tells us that children are most successful when they feel connected to their school, their teachers and their peers. Through Bright Sparks, we focus on helping children and families develop these important connections long before Prep begins.

Student-Led School Tours
Our Year 6 student leaders proudly showcase our school and provide future students with an authentic glimpse into life at Birkdale South.
Principal Walk and Talk Tours
Families have the opportunity to meet our Principal, explore the school and learn more about our approach to learning, wellbeing and belonging.
Pre Prep Parent Conversations
Held during Term 3, these conversations provide parents with valuable information about preparing for school and an opportunity to ask questions about the transition process.
Bright Sparks Sessions with Prep Teachers
During Term 4, future Prep students participate in engaging sessions led by our Prep teaching team. These experiences help children become familiar with classroom routines, learning environments and school expectations while building positive relationships with their future teachers.

Kindy Library Visits
Throughout the year, local kindergarten groups are welcomed into our school library to explore books, participate in literacy experiences and become familiar with our school environment.
