A proud history, a bright future
Birkdale South State School proudly opened its doors in 1982, following the dedication, vision and advocacy of local families who recognised the need for a quality primary school at the heart of the growing Birkdale community. More than four decades later, we continue to honour that legacy by providing an exceptional education for every child who walks through our gates.
Today, Birkdale South State School is a vibrant learning community where students are encouraged to Belong, Grow and Achieve. While much has changed since our establishment, our commitment to high expectations, strong relationships and student success remains as strong as ever.
Achievement through effort
Our school motto, "Achievement through effort," reflects our belief that success is not determined by talent alone, but by perseverance, resilience and a willingness to learn. We encourage every student to strive for personal excellence, embrace challenges and take pride in their growth as learners and individuals.
At Birkdale South, we celebrate effort as the pathway to achievement. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, through the arts or in service to others, students are encouraged to be the very best version of themselves.
Our school emblem
Our school emblem reflects three enduring elements of a quality primary education: work, respect and play.
Work
Work symbolises our commitment to learning, growth and achievement. It reflects our belief that every child can succeed when provided with high-quality teaching, clear expectations and opportunities to practise and apply their learning. Students are encouraged to actively engage in their education and develop the skills, knowledge and dispositions needed for lifelong success.
Respect
Respect represents our commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment. At Birkdale South, students learn the importance of respecting themselves, others and the world around them. Through our CARE Bee-Leafs and positive school culture, we nurture kindness, empathy, responsibility and strong relationships.
Play
Play recognises the important role that social connection, creativity and physical activity have in a child's development. Through play, students build friendships, develop teamwork skills, strengthen resilience and experience the joy of being part of a thriving school community.
Excellence in learning
Birkdale South State School provides a rich and engaging curriculum designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and achievement. Our evidence-based approach to teaching is underpinned by explicit instruction, structured literacy, retrieval practice and visible learning strategies, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed.
Students are provided with outstanding opportunities across a broad range of learning areas, including:
- Literacy and Numeracy excellence

A place to belong
At Birkdale South State School, we are proud of our strong sense of community and the positive culture that exists across our school. Guided by our CARE Bee-Leafs—Community of Kindness, Appreciation, Respect, Resilience and Effort—we work together to create a school where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to reach their full potential.
As we continue to build upon the vision of those who established our school in 1982, we remain committed to providing a learning environment where every child can truly Belong, Grow and Achieve.
