Parent teacher communication

At Birkdale South State School, we value open and ongoing communication with parents and carers. We recognise that families and schools are partners in education, working together to support each child’s learning, development and wellbeing.

Throughout the year, we provide two key opportunities for parents and carers to connect directly with their child’s teacher through formal parent–teacher conversations, with options to meet in person or online.

The first opportunity is a parent-led conversation, providing parents and carers with the opportunity to share important information about their child’s learning, wellbeing, strengths and individual needs. This valuable insight helps teachers develop a deeper understanding of each student and supports them to respond effectively to their individual needs.

The second opportunity is a teacher-led conversation, providing teachers with the opportunity to share information about each child’s learning, progress and achievements. These conversations provide an opportunity to celebrate growth, discuss areas for continued development and work together to identify next steps in each child’s learning journey.

These conversations complement the two formal written reporting periods provided each year. Together, parent–teacher conversations and written reports provide families with regular opportunities to understand their child's learning progress, achievement and next steps throughout the school year.

Term Curriculum Overviews

At the beginning of each term, families receive a Term Curriculum Overview outlining the key learning that will take place across the curriculum. These overviews provide information about the knowledge, skills and understandings students will develop throughout the term, as well as important information to support families in understanding and engaging with their child's learning.

Term Curriculum Overviews also include key school information and important dates for the term, helping families stay informed about upcoming events, learning opportunities and school activities.
