At Birkdale South State School, we believe that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, connected and celebrated for who they are. Each year, our school community comes together to celebrate You Belong Week—a special week dedicated to fostering belonging, inclusion, kindness and positive relationships.
You Belong Week is one of the highlights of our school calendar and reflects our commitment to ensuring that every student experiences a genuine sense of connection to their school, their peers and their community. Throughout the week, students participate in a variety of engaging activities designed to strengthen friendships, celebrate diversity, promote wellbeing and reinforce our school values. Activities may include guest presenters, classroom challenges, team-building experiences, community events, celebration days, wellbeing activities and opportunities for students to learn more about themselves and others.
The theme that underpins You Belong Week is:
"I am me. You are you. Together we belong."
This powerful message reminds students that everyone brings unique strengths, talents, interests and experiences to our school community. By embracing these differences and treating one another with kindness, respect and understanding, we create a school where everyone can thrive. You Belong Week also provides an opportunity to explicitly teach and celebrate our CARE Bee-Leafs:

These values guide our interactions each day and help create a culture where students feel supported, accepted and empowered to be themselves.
Research consistently shows that when students feel a strong sense of belonging at school, they are more likely to engage in learning, develop positive relationships, demonstrate resilience and achieve success both academically and socially. Through You Belong Week, we intentionally strengthen these connections and remind every child that they are an important and valued member of the Birkdale South family.
